Kids Yoga
The world is changing all the time, and so is the way that kids interact and negotiate with it. Children used to play out in the neighborhood all day until dinner time, and people would not worry about their children being out of their sight for more than ten minutes. Video games were less prevalent, or going back even further, didn’t exist at all, and children who weren’t playing were probably working. There were plenty of opportunities for children to be active, to work through excessive energy, and to deal with the stress from school and home expectations. But much of that is shifting now, and so children need to find other positive, healthy outlets. Some parents who practice yoga themselves are now beginning to introduce their children to the exercise, and they hope that it will allow the kids to stay fit, to learn relaxation techniques, to give them more confidence and grace, and to teach them how to deal with life’s twists and turns.
There are many different ways to get your children active in kids yoga. First, there are classes and centers that are designed just for children and the needs of kids yoga. Second, you can contact local community centers, schools, or gyms to ask for or encourage the establishment of a kids yoga class. Third, you can teach your own child yoga by showing them the basic yoga postures, or asanas, in your own home and on your own time. There are many benefits associated with yoga, and your children will benefit from the experience.
